THE MORRIL ACT
The act made it legal for the government to seize lands from native tribes. The seized lands were sold and all profits were intended to fund public colleges.
The Dakota Tribe are abused by the government
The government broke their promise to deliver food and supplies to local tribes in exchange for the surrender of tribal land. Starving, 4 teens from the “Dakota Tribe” steal eggs from a white family, the family catch them in the act, the “Dakota people” kill the 5 white family members.
The Dakota Tribe sense war and take the initiative
They start violent riots, loot white businesses, create chaos and kill white settlers.
The riots went on for 3 weeks in December 1862
